Part 1 – Spoiler Free Quickie Review
Yes, I realize I am one of the only people ever that has not seen this movie. I know what happens in it, I know the plot, hell I’ve even seen AvP. But how have I missed Predator? No idea. I’ve just never gotten around to watching it. I know, I’m a horrible person. Sue me.
I liked the movie – what is there not to like? Crappy dialogue, guerrilla warfare, Arnold in his prime, an alien species, etc. Everything about this movie is awesome. My only complaint is that I want so much more Predator. As in, I just want to see more of it, see more of them, etc. The Predator is just so cool.
The movie is a good beer and pizza movie. Order pizza, have your friends over, drink some, and get a good kick out of some of the most ridiculous lines ever… “get to the chopper!” or “you are one ugly mother-fucker” are just so fun to quote.
Part 2 – In Depth Spoiler Ridden Review
I guess the one part about the movie I never knew about, was the whole beginning war part…. and it was just like 2 completely different movies. I mean, yay, thanks for the plot development, but it was just like… too much plot… that they never went more into. You could have just sent them on a mission and then had Predator show up. No need for the weird mission that I zoned out and already forgot even what it was.
It amazes me how fast these guys were able to make traps. Snares, trip wires, etc. I mean, yes, I get they’re highly specialized super awesome killers but holy crap. They wire up a whole jungle in just a couple of hours. Dutch takes a little longer by himself, but still manages to set up multiple traps, make a bow and arrow, and tons of other crap in record time.
Also, the girl, Anna, goes from only Spanish to English all of a sudden? mmhmm… right. She would have popped that English out right at the beginning when they captured her and tried to bargain with them or something.
I liked this movie – but probably wouldn’t watch it again. I could watch Alien over and over and over and still be scared. This one, not so much. And while yes, it is a “fun” watch, it wasn’t fun enough for me to go out of my way and watch it again. It’s just more of a “oh, ok, it’s on, so I guess I’ll watch it” kind of thing.
