Part 1 – Spoiler Free Quickie Review
Come on, if you’ve seen the trailer you know this isn’t going to be a fabulous piece of art that we’re all going to fawn over. But it will be HIGHLY enjoyable. It’s ridiculous, outrageous, hilarious, and craptastic. I liked this one better than the first one even because it just was so damn great. What made this movie great? Without giving away some of the fabulous scenes – it’s sheerly just the combination of the cast members. There’s cameos out the wazoo, there’s repeated lines from some of the actors older films (I swear to god, they say “I’ll be back” like 4 times when Arnold is there), there’s awesome kill sequences, and it’s just a highly entertaining movie. When you want a good action packed, limited predictable plot, yet super entertaining movie – go see this one.
Part 2 – In-Depth Spoiler Ridden Review
We don’t need a synopsis – why? There really isn’t a plot. Liam Hemsworth character gets killed off by Jean-Claude Van Damme while the team is on a supposed easy mission, and so they go on a kick ass revenge mission. They succeed. There you go that’s the plot. So I’m just instead going to highlight some of the golden scenes/kills/lines, in random order.
Sylvester Stallone getting roundhouse kicked to the face, twice, by Jean Claude Van Damme.
Chuck Norris magically appearing and taking out a around 50 men and a tank in one fail swoop to save the entire expendable team.
Willis, Stallone, and Schwarzenegger all shooting down Van Damme and his men…. while Chuck Norris covers them from above. It was a beautiful scene.
Terry Crews only using extremely heavy weapons so his muscles would always be shiny, sweaty, and in slow motion when he shot his weapons. Fabulous.
A guy getting his head ripped off by a helicopter propeller.
Liam Hemsworth getting killed by Van Damme round-house kicking a knife into his chest. Oh yeah. That happened.
There was awesome scenery throughout the whole movie – my Dad and I’s favorite was the clear American street signs that were supposedly in Albania. They did film a lot in Bulgaria, actually, but come on, how’d you miss the street signs on your one American location!?
A Russian woman who goes from barely being able to ask who these men are, in broken English, to being able to tell a whole detailed story about what has happened in the town, in good English. Ok.
Schwarzenegger saying “I’ll be back” around 4 times. Also at some point I think he says “If I don’t get terminated…” or something like that.
I had a great time watching this movie and I would watch it again because it was so damn hilarious. It’d be a great movie to throw on at a party and just laugh at. I seriously loved it. Yeah it’s predictable, yeah there’s no plot or character development, but it’s still awesome to watch.
